Наличие у индивидуумов (пробандов proband) менее поражаемого каким-либо НЗЧ пола большего числа заболевших родственников, чем у более поражаемого пола, т.е. при одинаковой генотипической компоненте подверженности liability обоих полов между ними имеются различия в значении порога threshold проявления признака; Э.К. на примере пилоростеноза (у новорожденных девочек встречается реже, но отмечается чаще у их родственников) был продемонстрирован К.Картером в 1976.
